Hollywood’s brightest stars are gearing up for the Golden Globe Awards this Sunday, marking the year’s first major awards event. French director Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Perez leads the pack with a record-breaking 10 nominations in the comedy/musical categories.

Audiard’s genre-defying Spanish-language musical, which tells the story of a Mexican drug lord transitioning to life as a woman, has garnered widespread acclaim since its debut at Cannes. The film’s triumph at the European Film Awards has only strengthened its position as a contender for both the Golden Globes and the upcoming Oscars in March.

“It’s a true musical that wowed people,” said Pete Hammond, awards columnist for Deadline. “Its international appeal and critical acclaim give it an edge.”Hollywood A-Listers Set to Shine at the Golden GlobesDramatic Showdowns and Strong Contenders

Emilia Perez has earned multiple nominations, including acting nods for Karla Sofia Gascon as the lead character, Selena Gomez, and Zoe Saldana. The film will compete for the Best Musical/Comedy prize against strong contenders like Wicked, Anora, Challengers, A Real Pain, and The Substance.

The highly anticipated Wicked film adaptation, based on the Broadway musical, has made a significant impact, securing four nominations, including Best Actress nods for Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda.

Erivo faces fierce competition from Gascon, Mikey Madison (Anora), Amy Adams (Nightbitch), Demi Moore (The Substance), and Zendaya (Challengers).Hollywood A-Listers Set to Shine at the Golden GlobesOn the drama side, The Brutalist and Conclave are strong contenders, with both films receiving multiple nominations. The organization has since been dissolved and restructured under new ownership. With a renewed focus on international and diverse storytelling, this year’s nominees reflect a broader range of cinema and television.

“The Globes have become more inclusive, spotlighting different kinds of movies and global narratives,” said Hammond, referring to the diverse slate of nominees such as The Brutalist.
