“We have not yet received any requests for help. Naturally, we would assess our own needs first. However, we will do everything within our responsibility to support our colleagues in the United States if they seek our help,” McAllister said during an interview with Sky News Australia on Friday morning, local time.
The outbreak of fires in Los Angeles during winter has raised concerns in Australia, which has a relatively small aerial firefighting fleet and depends on leasing aircraft from other countries. This reliance poses an increasing challenge as the lengthening fire season in the northern hemisphere overlaps with Australia’s own.
Meanwhile, more than a dozen fires are currently burning across New South Wales, although none have reached emergency levels.
