Netflix has set the release date for Adam J. Graves’ Oscar-nominated short film Anuja, which will premiere on February 5.
The announcement came on Wednesday night, with Netflix India revealing that the film, nominated for Best Short Film (Live Action) at the Academy Awards, will be available on the platform starting February 5.
Anuja tells a story of resilience, sisterhood, and hope. It follows a 9-year-old girl, played by Sajda Pathan, who works in a back-alley garment factory.
Her sister, Palak (Ananya Shanbhag), is 17, and together they face a life-altering choice when the younger sister is given a rare opportunity to attend school. The decision she must make will have profound consequences for both of them.
Produced in partnership with Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT), the film is backed by high-profile names such as Guneet Monga, Priyanka Chopra, and Mindy Kaling.
Anuja is in the running for the Best Short Film category alongside A Lien, I’m Not a Robot, The Last Ranger, and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent.
The Oscar winners will be announced on March 2 during the Academy Awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
