Trump to host Jordan’s king after threatening to withhold aid if Gaza plan rejected

Donald Trump is preparing to meet with Jordan’s King Abdullah after previously indicating that he might suspend aid to Jordan and Egypt if they refuse to support his plan to take control of Gaza and relocate its residents to their territories.

Trump’s apparent insistence on moving Gaza’s population to Jordan has heightened tensions between the US and a crucial Middle Eastern ally, according to the BBC’s Lucy Williamson.

At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed “relentless action” to secure the return of hostages held in Gaza, following Hamas’ announcement that it would postpone their release indefinitely.

Trump has urged Israel to abandon the ceasefire and “let hell break out” if Hamas does not release all remaining hostages by midday on Saturday.

In response, a Hamas spokesman stated that “the language of threats has no value,” while determined Palestinians asserted that Trump “will never make Gaza hell.”

A total of 17 Israeli hostages were still expected to be freed in the initial phase of the ceasefire, with Israel confirming that eight of them are deceased. Meanwhile, Israel has already released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
