Jasprit Bumrah has been named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024, receiving the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Award for his remarkable performances throughout the year.
The Indian pacer outshone contenders such as Australia’s Travis Head and England’s Joe Root and Harry Brook to claim the award.
Bumrah joins an elite list of Indian cricketers to have won the Sir Garfield Sobers Award, following in the footsteps of Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2017, 2018).
In 2024, Bumrah played a pivotal role in India’s T20 World Cup victory, finishing as the tournament’s Player of the Tournament with 15 wickets at an extraordinary average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17.
He also dominated in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, taking 32 wickets in five Tests, earning him the Player of the Series award despite India’s loss in the series. Additionally, Bumrah became the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 Test wickets.
In Test cricket, Bumrah’s impressive performance continued as he took 71 wickets in just 13 matches, the most by any bowler in 2024.
He ended the year as the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket and achieved a record 77 wickets in the 2023-2025 World Test Championship cycle, while also holding the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test Rankings.
