Australian opening batter Sam Konstas has revealed details about his heated confrontation with Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the SCG.
The incident occurred on Day 1, when Bumrah was frustrated after being asked to halt his run-up to allow Australian batter Usman Khawaja to settle at the crease.
Bumrah, visibly upset, gestured angrily towards Konstas and Khawaja. Moments later, after dismissing Khawaja on the final ball of the day, Bumrah charged towards Konstas, who was at the non-striker’s end. This exchange led to much speculation regarding the cause of the Indian pacer’s aggression.
Konstas addressed the situation in an interview, explaining that he wasn’t particularly rattled by the confrontation. “I didn’t get too fazed. Uzi got out, and Bumrah was trying to buy some time. It was probably my fault, but that’s cricket,” Konstas said.
He went on to praise Bumrah’s performance, acknowledging his role in taking the crucial wicket of Khawaja amid the on-field tension.”Credit to Bumrah. He got the wicket, but it was a great team performance overall,” Konstas added.
The match saw Australia claim a six-wicket victory on Day 3, successfully chasing down a target of 162 to win the final Test and seal a 3-1 series victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Debutant Beau Webster played a crucial role, scoring the decisive runs in a low-scoring match at the SCG.
