Malala Yousafzai, the youngest-ever Nobel laureate, is set to visit Pakistan to attend the two-day international conference on girls’ education, scheduled for January 11 and 12 in Islamabad.

She will be a special guest at the event, which will focus on addressing the challenges and opportunities in advancing girls’ education across Muslim communities worldwide.

The conference, titled “Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities: Challenges and Opportunities”, aims to foster dialogue and collaboration to find actionable solutions for improving education for girls in these communities. According to Education Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Malala will return home after her participation in the event.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will deliver the keynote address at the opening session, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to promoting girls’ education and gender equality.

The conference will bring together over 150 international dignitaries, including ministers, ambassadors, scholars, and representatives from international organizations such as UNESCO, UNICEF, and the World Bank.

The event will culminate with the signing of the Islamabad Declaration, a formal commitment by Muslim nations to empower girls through education and work towards sustainable educational reforms.

Federal Education Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui highlighted that the conference will also be attended by provincial education ministers and chief ministers from across Pakistan. He added that the Afghan government has been invited to participate as well, acknowledging the challenges both nations face in the realms of education and employment.

Malala, who was shot by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) at the age of 15 for her advocacy of girls’ education, last visited Pakistan in October 2022 to tour flood-affected areas.
