Netflix has announced a price increase for its subscription plans in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Argentina, and Portugal, following a surge of nearly 19 million new subscribers at the end of 2024.
This growth was driven by popular content, such as the second season of Squid Game and high-profile live events like the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match.
In the U.S., the standard ad-free plan will increase from $15.49 to $17.99 per month, while the ad-supported plan will rise by $1 to $7.99. Netflix explained the price hikes by stating, “We will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can reinvest to further improve Netflix.”
In the UK, Netflix confirmed that there are no immediate plans to raise prices. The company also aims to expand its live event offerings, including WWE wrestling, and has secured the broadcasting rights for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031. This move is part of Netflix’s strategy to diversify its content and remain competitive in the streaming market.
