Renowned Comedian Javed Kodu Passed Away

Veteran Pakistani stage and television actor Javed Kodu, celebrated for his comedic flair and unique short stature, passed away early Sunday following a prolonged illness.

The funeral prayers for renowned stage and television actor Javed Kodu will be held today at the marquee behind his residence in Singhpura, with burial to follow at the Singhpura graveyard.

Kodu, who devoted over 40 years to the entertainment industry, leaves behind a lasting legacy of humor, resilience, and heartfelt performances, according to media reports.

Born with dwarfism, Kodu overcame significant societal and professional challenges. Despite enduring ridicule and discrimination both on and off stage, he persevered to become one of Pakistan’s most cherished theatre icons.

His nickname, “Kodu,” was affectionately given to him by legendary comedian Akhtar Hussain Albela.

Kodu began his acting career in 1981 with the play *Sode Baaz* and went on to appear in more than 150 Punjabi and Urdu films, along with numerous stage performances. His standout television role in the popular drama *Ashiyana* remains fondly remembered by fans.

He is survived by his son Salman Kodu and another son, Shera, a well-known performer on *Mazaaq Raat*, who has followed in his father’s footsteps.

Javed Kodu’s contributions to Pakistani theatre and cinema are monumental. His passing marks the end of an era in stage comedy. Tributes from across the country have poured in, honoring his vibrant spirit, perseverance, and the laughter he brought to millions.

**Prime Minister expresses sorrow over Kodu’s passing**

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over Kodu’s death. In a statement from the PM Office Media Wing, the premier prayed for Kodu’s elevated rank in paradise and offered condolences to the grieving family, wishing them strength to bear the loss.

The prime minister acknowledged that Kodu rose to fame through his exceptional acting skills and said his passing had created a void in the media industry that could never be filled. He extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family during this difficult time.
