Trump’s Day-One Executive Orders

Donald Trump has swiftly signed a series of executive orders addressing issues such as immigration, climate change, and pardons after assuming office as the 47th president of the United States.

At the White House, the Republican president wasted no time in exercising his authority, approving executive actions, presidential memorandums, and orders across a range of policy areas.

Executive orders carry the force of law but can be challenged in court or overturned by future administrations.

Many of Trump’s newly issued orders are expected to face legal scrutiny.

Immigration: Declaring a National Emergency at the Border
From the Oval Office, Trump authorized a directive to declare a national emergency at the southern border. “That’s a significant one,” he remarked after signing the order.

He also proposed ending automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants.

Additionally, Trump issued an order suspending the U.S. refugee resettlement program for four months, although specific details remain unclear.

TikTok
Trump signed a directive delaying the application of a law banning the Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok by 75 days.

TikTok responded positively to Trump’s decision, resuming U.S. services after briefly halting them prior to his inauguration.

According to Trump, the directive provides TikTok’s parent company additional time to secure a U.S.-based partner to purchase a majority stake. However, the specifics of the order remain vague.

When asked about the action, Trump stated it allows him to either “sell it or shut it down.”

Although Trump had initially supported a TikTok ban, he appears to have reconsidered after his campaign videos gained billions of views on the platform.

Doge and Elon Musk
Trump has also established the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), a new advisory agency tasked with reducing government expenditures. The department is expected to be led by Elon Musk.

According to Trump, Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, will oversee an office with approximately 20 employees to manage the agency’s operations.
