On April 16, 2025, Zoom experienced a significant outage that affected its services globally, including video calls, the website, and the application. The disruption began around 2:40 PM ET and lasted nearly two hours, during which users encountered “Unable to Connect” errors and were unable to log in or access the Zoom.us domain, which displayed a 502 Bad Gateway error. The issue extended to Zoom’s press contact email, which was also non-functional.
According to Downdetector.com, reports of the outage peaked at 67,280 users at 3:01 PM ET, with issues noted particularly in the United States and various other countries around the world.
The exact cause of the outage remains unclear, but a Reddit user suggested that the Zoom.us domain may have been placed in a server hold due to DNS verification, fraud, or security concerns. By 4:12 PM ET, the domain registry issue was reportedly fixed, though DNS propagation required additional time. At approximately 5 PM ET, Zoom confirmed service had been restored and thanked users for their patience.
